On a quest to make Ecocide a Crime. 'First do no harm' & from that principle we can create maximum freedom for all from a place of care, love and trust.

In April 2010 Polly Higgins submitted into the United Nations a fully drafted proposal for a law of Ecocide. The wording of the law of Ecocide was deliberately drafted to ensure the governance and accountability of corporate and governmental decision-making so that people and planet are put first. Ecocide is, claims Polly, the missing 5th Crime Against Peace.

All that is required is a amendment to the Rome Statute for it to become an international crime. Polly is the author of the award-winning book Eradicating Ecocide: laws and governance to prevent the destruction of our planet. Her second book, Earth is our Business was published in May 2012. She was voted one of the World’s Top 10 Visionary Thinkers by the Ecologist and celebrated as The Planet’s Lawyer by the 2010 Change Awards. She was the Overall Champion of the 2012 People and Environment Awards. Polly delivered the 2012 Rachel Carson Memorial Lecture. She is recognised as the leading expert on the law of Ecocide. You can read the text of the Ecocide Act here.

Polly speaks on all aspects of Ecocide law, Earth law and is connected to a wider team of lawyers, parliamentarians and members of the public throughout the world who support her work and gift their time freely.

My passion in life, and how it connects to the theme of "The Power of Love and Compassion in Governance":

I love exploring big ideas and I am passionate about creating new pathways. As Arne Naess said, “when we think dutifully, we act beautifully” – I truly believe this and sense that the power of love and compassion are key to effecting a more beautiful world

Personal Quote

Ecocide law is a law that creates a greater freedom for all - a freedom to live life in peaceful enjoyment.
Ecocide Law is a Law for Life - a law that puts people and planet first. It is a law for humanity, a law for nature and a law for future generations. This is about governance from the heart.
When I work from a place of heart-felt trust and compassion, from a place of care and love, something happens that can only be called magic.
